Comfort at Home

Space to stretch out – and lots of it – is the advantage of a king-sized bed. Luxurious sprawling, great comfort, and spontaneous family bed-ins are but a few of the perks afforded by the king of all bed sizes.

There are two types of king-sized beds: Standard (or Eastern) and California (or Western). A Standard King measures 190cm wide X 200cm long (76” X 80”), providing the most space per person of any bed size at 95cm (38in) – the equivalent of a twin-sized bed. The California King is longer and narrower than a Standard King - measuring 180cm wide X 210cm long (72” X 84”), with 80cm (32in) of sleep space per person. It is the longest bed available on the market.

Before you purchase a king-sized bed, ask yourself a few questions:

• Is my bedroom large enough for it?
• Will there be enough room for my king-sized bed and my bedroom furniture?
• Will there be enough room to open closet doors and drawers?
• Will the mattress fit through the door of my bedroom?
• Can the mattress be carried up winding stairs or down a narrow hallway? (king-sized beds use twin box springs, however, the large mattress may be difficult to manoeuvre through tight spaces.)

Remember that linens and pillows for this size bed will cost more than standard items. But if royal comfort is your goal, king-sized is the way to go.
