Recently we posted a blog briefly describing the top five front load laundry pairs that we display on the floor at Barber and Haskill. This quick comparison that may assist you in determining which laundry set can perform the best for you. Price, Size, Functionality and Availability can all be factors in your selection process.
Maytag MHW 5500FC Compared to Whirlpool’s WFW75HEFW
The Whirlpool and Maytag units have the same capacity with 5.2 cu ft in the washer and 7.4 cu ft in the dryer. Great for large loads or busy families. Both are built with a direct drive motor system giving you great performance. They both have a great vibration control system that allows you to have the sets anywhere in your home. So, what is the difference? Why buy one over the other? The first reason is Price the Whirlpool machine when matched up with its dryer usually retails for $300 less the Maytag 5500 pair. So, if the features listed above checks all your boxes buy the Whirlpool.
Wait a sec you say there must be a reason to pay more? You are right here being some of the reasons you may want to shell out the extra $$$. The Maytag set has a higher part component warranty on the direct drive motor and drum, 10 years instead of 1. The washer also has an internal water heater allowing for more cycles and better wash results. Also the Maytag offers steam, available in the washer and dryer. Steam in the washer can better disinfect for allergens and steam can be used for better stain release. But my favorite difference is the Fresh Hold feature on the Maytag machine.
When activated allows me to forget to move the load into the dryer before I fall asleep. Thus, not having smelling musty laundry that needs to be rewashed in the morning.
Both sets will effectively clean, but if you think you would find value in some of the added features the is worth the extra money. If you like to hit normal then start and don't care about the rest you could save the money and go with the Whirlpool.
