There has been a lot of hype over the new Black Stainless Steel colour in the media. So, what is it and why would someone want this colour? I find a growing popularity in Black Stainless Steel packages. This has been since its release. It now makes up approximately 30% of packages sold nationally, giving consumers a great alternative to Stainless Steel.  Black Stainless Steel is fingerprint resistant, and gives a classy, elegant look to the kitchen. Â
What is Black Stainless Steel?Â
Black Stainless is simply a coating applied over stainless steel.  Bosch would be the exception as they do bake their black finish onto their stainless steel.  Baking the coating onto the appliance surface does provide a more scratch resistant coating to the appliances. But, keep in mind, this is scratch resistant - not scratch proof. You can find Black Stainless Steel appliances in such brands as Samsung, Frigidaire, Bosch, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, and more. Â

Â
Should you buy Black Stainless Steel?
Depending on the design you would like for your kitchen, Black Stainless Steel offers a new modern look and feel. Black stainless appliances give you a neutral and sophisticated look, while allowing for more versatility in your kitchen cabinet and backsplash colour palette.
Â
Which Black Stainless Steel brand should I buy?Â
Because Bosch's black stainless steel is baked on, it makes it one of your best choices for black stainless appliances, as it's less likely to get scratches. Bosch does have a limited selection in what is available in this colour, but it is certainly growing. Â
Samsung would be another brand to consider for a black stainless kitchen; they also have a wider selection of available appliances.
KitchenAid offers a very nice Black Stainless Steel option. They have a very clean finish to their appliances and also come with a stainless steel handle, giving the appliances a classy and more industrial look.
Â
Well, all of these are great choices, but is the Black Stainless all the same colour by different manufactures?
The answer is no. While Bosch and KitchenAid has more of a matte Black finish to their appliances, manufactures like Samsung, Frigidaire and Whirlpool come in a more of a shiny black surface.Â
Â
Is Black Stainless Steel here to stay?
Well, no one knows this answer for sure, but with the number of available Black Stainless Steel appliances increasing, I feel it will have a place in the industry for many more years to come. Â
